Embodied movement practices can allow us to shed layers of ourselves that no longer serve us creating a sacred and devotional space within.

Spaciousness in the body translates to spaciousness in the mind. This is the fundamental principle from which Farida teaches. Her love of movement began at a young age. It led her to study various dance forms and dance professionally in a modern dance company during college. Yoga came across her path because of her deep desire for depth and knowledge. At the age of 16, Farida discovered the teachings of Ram Dass and continued to explore yogic philosophy. Her spiritual practice guided her to asana as a way to explore the Self and body through the shapes of the poses. In 2001, Farida completed her first yoga teacher training in Los Angeles with Bikram Choudhury and returned to Houston to teach full time. She continued deepening her knowledge of the practice through additional trainings in Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Hatha, kids yoga, anatomy and philosophy completing over 1500 hours of yoga education.

In parallel with her ongoing discovery of yoga, her interest in the art of movement has led her to a certification in Pilates, as well as work in the field of Gyrotonics. Farida has taught classes and workshops to adults and children in studio settings, private and public schools, The Houston Ballet, Brene Brown’s The Marble Jar, recovery centers and various Houston communities. She also co-teaches a 200hr yoga teacher training with Lex Gillan of The Yoga Institute.

Farida also offers Belly Dance classes that focus on encouraging women to connect with their bodies and the Divine Feminine. She has performed and taught throughout the United States and overseas. One of her most rewarding experiences has been teaching belly dance classes to breast cancer survivors through The Pink Ribbons Project. Witnessing women feel beautiful and confident in their bodies is the reason Farida continues to teach these classes.

Alchemy Sound Baths have become a very important part of Farida’s life. She started playing the sound bowls in 2017 as a way to bring more balance and calm to her full life. The vibrations of the bowls have been very healing in aiding to regulate her and her clients’ nervous system. She has completed a Sound Healing certification that has added more depth to her playing.

Farida’s yoga classes are rooted in alignment and intelligent sequencing that brings an awareness of the subtle body while weaving yoga philosophy into the physical practice. Farida is interested in exploring ways to practice and teach that leave her students feeling grounded, peaceful, connected and expansive. She has a psychosomatic approach to her classes and encourages her students to truly listen to their body and breath. Farida loves exploring and teaching the myths and stories behind the postures and how we as practitioners, can discover something about ourselves on and off the mat each time we practice.

When Farida is not teaching and playing her sound bowls, she loves to be with her children, friends and loved ones, spend time in nature, visit museums taking in art, gazing at flowers and trees, and diving deep into her rabbit holes of choice.
